Mamon Powers, Sr. - Founder
1921-2001

Founded in 1967 by Mamon Powers Sr., Powers & Sons Construction Company, Inc., is a highly respected commercial, industrial and institutional construction company. The capacity to perform its own excavation, concrete, masonry and carpentry work has made it possible to meet critical deadlines that clients have come to appreciate and respect.

Powers & Sons employs a professional support staff of architects, registered engineers and other specialists to help the company meet its client’s needs. Its field force encompasses laborers, carpenters, cement finishers, brick masons iron workers and operating engineers. The company prides itself on its amicable relationships with local unions to ensure successful and timely completion of projects.

For more than 40 years, Powers & Sons has built a solid, unblemished record of integrity, quality and cost effectiveness in the general contracting industry. The company began as premier home building firm. Today it is a leading general contractor, construction manager, design builder and project management company. While corporate headquarters remains in Gary, Indiana, the firm has expanded to include fully staffed offices in Indianapolis, Indiana, and Chicago, Illinois. Each office remains committed to its immediate community as well as providing comprehensive services to clients who may have needs in the greater Northwest Indiana, Central Indiana and Chicagoland regions.

In the early 1970s, Mamon Powers Sr. chartered a new course for the company by adding commercial, industrial and institutional construction to the company’s home building enterprise. The new direction also filled a void of minority contractors in the Northwest Indiana construction market.

In 1971 Mamon Powers Jr., a graduate from Purdue University, joined the company as an estimator. Today he is the firm’s president and chief executive officer.

In 1980, after graduating from Purdue University, Claude Powers joined the family business as a project manager and is now the executive vice president and chief operations officer of the firm.

In 2002, Marvin Murdock joined Powers & Sons to manage the evolving business operations in the Indianapolis market. In this position, the Northeastern State University graduate supports and reinforces the core values and objectives of the firm. He also is the liaison between the company and its clients in the Indianapolis community.
