SAM'S CLUB

Powers & Sons has been awarded the renovation of Sam’s Club, Store No. 8174, in Merrillville Indiana. Sam’s Club is owned by Wal-Mart Inc. This marks the 5th project with Wal-Mart, Inc.

The work consists of selective demolition, structural concrete, new entrance canopy, façade restoration and rebranding,
new bathrooms, new snack bar, new bakery, freezer upgrades, refurbishment of the automobile center, new eye center and refurbishing the gas station along Route 30.

The project began on February 15, 2010 and is scheduled to be complete by July 2, 2010. To meet this aggressive schedule, Powers & Sons and its subcontractors will work two shifts (day & night) to overcome obstacles inherent in the completion of projects such as this.


CUISINE OF THE DIASPORA

Cusine of the Diaspora

Powers & Sons has been selected as the construction manager for the Cuisine of the Diaspora project. The project is located on the South side of Chicago in the historic Bronzeville Community. The project will be the corner stone for an ethnic food district in a “food desert” where there is no location to obtain health food, into an oasis, offering healthier dining options, jobs and a reason to come to the area.

The project will be financed by the Chicago Community Development Commission, a private financial institution and the City of Chicago.

When completed the building will house four (4) restaurants, and a produce market in 17,000 square feet. Each restaurant will showcase distinct African and African American flavors, from traditional southern, vegan, to Jamaican fare.

General construction services are being provided for this 82,200 square foot Worship Center that will consist of a 2700 seat sanctuary with balcony, glass curtain walls, terrazzo and composite glass floors, cherry millwork, skylights, and additional parking lot with 800 parking spaces and much more. The anticipated completion is scheduled for Summer 2010.

Powers & Sons has been selected as the Construction Manager for the development of a 117,890 square foot facility. The new two story structure will house a 3,000 seat sanctuary, and administrative offices, chapel, children’s and adult education wings as well as audio visual space.

The site component will accommodate 1,546 total parking spaces with a proposed detention basin on the adjacent property to the South. The site plan also includes a 3.60 acre park area at the North end of the property.
This project will be located near the intersection of 56th Street and Cooper Road in Indianapolis Indiana. Eastern Star has owned this property since 2003.


J.W. MARRIOTT HOTEL

White Lodging Services and REI Real Estate Services have embarked on the construction of $425 million JW Marriott Complex in Indianapolis. The dynamic hotel development project will include the city’s largest, full-service convention hotel and a total of 1,568 rooms including: 1,000 rooms in the JW Marriott tower; 250 rooms in the Courtyard by Marriott; 168 rooms in the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott; and 150 rooms in the SpringHill Suites by Marriott.

The 34-story JW Marriott has a unique, crescent moon shape and includes a glass curtain wall system with thousands of multi-colored glass panels. The JW Marriott tower stands approximately 373-feet tall making it the tallest hotel in Indianapolis and the city’s seventh tallest building.

Powers & Sons has been selected as the specialty trade subcontractor to perform the installation of doors and hardware for this special one of a kind project.


TRC SENIOR VILLAGE

TRC Senior Village

The Renaissance Collaborative has awarded the construction of this seven story load bearing precast and masonry structure to Powers & Sons Construction Company, Inc. The building will be the first phase of a three phase senior village project to be constructed by this community service organization. The building will be comprised of 70 single residency units that will help house the aging population on the City of Chicago’s near South side. This building will incorporate several green building elements and is pursuing a LEED Certification. The project is scheduled to be complete by August 2010.

The Brinshore & Michaels Development Companies have awarded phase IV of the Robert Taylor redevelopment project to Powers & Sons Construction Company, Inc. This combined $36,150,000 projects consists of the environmental remediation of “unsuitable soils and the construction of 170 units of affordable housing on the City of Chicago’s near south side. The buildings will be of masonry construction inclusive of energy efficient exterior, and interior components along with energy star efficient appliances. Congratulations to the team for putting a winning proposal that met the clients financial needs.
